THE WHY

Requirement

Programs: CCTR, CSPP, CMIG, CHAN, CFCC

The program includes identification of the child or family health & social service needs & makes referrals to appropriate agencies for services.

The program does follow-up to ensure that identified needs have been met.

THE HOW & WHAT

Strategies

Interpreting regulations & putting them into practice can be challenging. Below are strategies to ensure this component is met:

Identify Needs

Many of our families come to us under stressful situations.

Children come to us with very evident needs beyond child care services, such as dental, clothing or developmental needs.

For children to be successful in care and school, it is important that we do our best to IDENTIFY the needs of both the child & family.

Referrals

Refer the family to appropriate agencies in the community based on the health or social service needs.

It is important to form good relationships with other community agencies, as you will be able to assist the parent quickly & effectively

211 is a great resource. This resource is administered by United Ways across the nation.

Conduct Follow-up

Follow-up with the parent to ensure that their needs have been met.

Remember to have a system to document any follow-up as this will be requested in a review.

The regulations do not indicated the timeline for following-up with a family. Typically agency staff follow-up within 30 days of a referral being given to the parent.
