Careers in Early Childhood Education

Program Director Qualifications

Permit issued by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) authorizing supervision of a child care & development program operating in multiple sites. This can be either a Child Development Program Director or Children's Center Supervision Permit

OR CTC Credential authorizing teaching service in elementary school or single subject credential in home economics & 6 units in administration/supervision of ECE/CD & 12 units of ECE/CD or at least 2 years’ experience in an ECE/CD program

OR California Administrative Services Credential that includes preschool authorization

Site Supervisor Qualifications

Permit issued by CTC authorizing supervision of a child care & development program operating in single site. This can be either a Child Development Site Supervisor or Children's Center permit

OR CTC Credential authorizing teaching service in elementary school or single subject credential in home economics & 6 units in administration/supervision of ECE/CD & 12 units of ECE/CD or at least 2 years’ experience in an ECE/CD program

OR California Administrative Services Credential that includes preschool authorization

Teacher Qualifications

CTC Permit authorizing service in the care, development & instruction of children in a child care & development program. This can be either: 

  • Regular Children’s Center Instructional Permit

  • Limited Children’s Center Instructional Permit

  • Emergency Children’s Center Instructional Permit

  • Child Development Master Teacher Permit

  • Child Development Teacher Permit

  • Child Development Associate Teacher Permit         (May supervise Assistant Permit holder & aide)

OR CTC credential authorizing teaching service in elementary school or single subject credential in home economics & 12 ECE/CD units or 2 years’ experience in ECE/CD program

Child Development Training Consortium

Provides services, training, technical assistance & resources to students & professionals working with children.

The consortium helps individuals understand how to apply for a permit, permit stipends & connect with a professional growth advisor.

Apply for a permit on the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing website.

Search and/or obtain a copy of an Educator's current credential, certificate, and/or permits permits on the Commission on Teacher Credentialing website.

  • Copies of Permits, Credentials and/or Certificates
